Cloud Chamber

A cloud chamber is a particle detector used for visualizing the movement of ionizing radiation.

I decided to make one in my bathroom in order to further contemplate the universe. 

Materials:

  • Dry Ice

  • Radioactive Material (Glow Sticks)

  • 99% Isopropyl Alcohol 

  • Clear Plastic Cups

  • Black Felt

​

Steps:

​

  1. Place dry ice on table

  2. Glue felt to top of cups

  3. Soak felt with isopropyl alcohol

  4. Setup cups and glow sticks on top of the dry ice

  5. Observe the smoke streaks
